Registry and Database Excerpts
Biomethane certificates are issued in the months following production and injection. Certificates are electronic documents which are booked on the registered accounts of market participants within the database of the registry. To proof final use of the biomethane, referring to gas withdrawal from the grid, biomethane certificates are cancelled and are thus withdrawn from the database and cannot be further used.
A cancellation statement for a biomethane certificate can be provided in paper form by the registry operator at any time upon request by market participants. It proofs the existence of the cancelled certificate in the registry database and contains all relevant information to describe the biomethane product:
- Production plant (attribute level 1)
- Energy amount from biomethane (attribute level 2)
- Injection point, production period and month (attribute level 2)
- Characteristics and quality criteria of the respective biomethane (attribute level 3)
- Application purpose and consumer (on cancellation statement)
The respective owner contacts the registry operator for this purpose and requests a cancellation statement in paper form - stating corresponding certificate details, such as certificate ID, production period, etc. The registry operator will print the cancellation document on special green paper, sign it and send it via post to the owner. It shall be signed by hand by the AGCS managers to provide a forgery-proof document.
Such a cancellation statement can be used by the owner for further documentation requirements for the annual report, auditing, biomethane fueling, application for statutory refunds and compensation, etc. - as well as for other purposes.

The validity of a biomethane cancellation statement can be checked at any time by market participants. Contact info@biomethanregister.at with the respective ID of the biomethane certificate and/or cancellation statement.
